This review addresses the role of the support structures in stabilizing single atoms and controlling their electrochemical activity during oxygen evolution reaction using recent examples. These interactions of single atoms with the support via neighboring atoms have been thoroughly analyzed by in-depth insights obtained from ex-situ and in-situ spectroscopic characterization and density functional theory calculations.
