Lead-zinc flotation: A review on nearly six decades of innovations at the Huangshaping Lead-Zinc Mine

The Huangshaping Lead-Zinc Mine, a typical lead–zinc sulfide mine with a long service life, has accumulated a great deal of experiences in lead–zinc beneficiation over the past nearly six decades of production. Hereby, a comprehensive review of the Huangshaping Lead-Zinc Mine is therefore presented, covering the ore genesis, mineral composition and its dissemination relationships, and the flotation processes that were and are being used. Focally, a detailed summary of the trade-offs of the six flotation processes, bulk flotation process with two-stage grinding, partial (Pb-Zn) bulk flotation process with one stage grinding, bulk flotation process with one stage grinding, -flotability process, -flotability process with Zn preferential flotation for tailings, and preferential flotation, used at specific historical stages is highlighted. The objective of the current work is to provide a detailed and referable source for the beneficiation of lead–zinc sulfide ores by reviewing the production practices of the various processes used at the Huangshaping Lead-Zinc Mine, thereby providing valuable guidance and lessons for the future development of other mines sharing similar mineral characteristics with a view to achieving efficient recovery of lead–zinc resources.
