Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a complex disease associated with a seven-fold increase in 1-year mortality compared to the general population [1]. Standardising the approach to diagnosis and clinical evaluation is a long-standing priority in PH, with progress across these objectives likely to underlie rising disease incidence and prevalence [2]. However, PH diagnosis remains delayed, and may take up to ~2 years in some patients, due to non-specific symptoms (often attributed to other diseases) and low index of clinical suspicion among non-specialists [2]. Advanced-stage disease is common at the time PH is finally recognised, hampering initiation of treatment earlier in the disease course, which, in turn, may be important for preventing disease progression [3].
