Dynamic loads induced by near-limit turbulent hydrogen-air combustion inside a confinement

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the turbulent flame development inside a confined vessel filled with the combustible gaseous mixture and related pressure build-up. Detailed numerical modeling is implemented to reveal mechanisms of overpressure formation, and it is demonstrated that peak pressure inside the vessel can exceed adiabatic estimations. Instantaneous maximum pressure values turn out to be dependent on the turbulence intensity, and the physical mechanism defining this behavior is shown to be related to the peculiarities of the acoustic field developing during mixture burnout. Obtained results are of crucial importance for the design of combustion chambers and the elaboration of measures for explosion hazard mitigation.
