The Front Cover's dandelion represents the lipase-catalyzed kinetic resolution of racemic tertiary alcohols. The fluff is deemed a serine residue, bearing an acyl moiety, at the active center of an acyl-enzyme intermediate. When R-alcohols on the spring breeze come into contact with the active center, they are converted to the corresponding esters and fly away on the wind, just like dandelion seeds. More information can be found in the Research Article by H. Gröger, S. Akai and co-workers (DOI: 10.1002/ejoc.202400242).

(Eur. J. Org. Chem. 21/2024)
