The above article, published on 19 October 2022 in Wiley Online Library (Wiley Online Library), has been retracted by agreement between the journal's Editor, Glen Ritchie, the Crop Science Society of America's Editor-in-Chief, Bingru Huang, the Crop Science Society of America, and Wiley Periodicals LLC.

The retraction has been agreed following concerns raised by a third party that there are similarities between this article and a master's thesis written by a different author. An investigation by the journal, society, and Wiley confirmed there is significant unattributed overlap. Furthermore, in an explanation of the concerns raised, the corresponding author revealed that the above article was given to them for submission to the journal. An additional investigation by Wiley concluded that the authors did not make contributions to the article that would qualify them for authorship. Therefore, the retraction has also been agreed due to confirmed gift authorship. The corresponding author, N.S.T., agreed to this retraction; co-author T.Z.N. was unavailable for comment.
