Comparison of the interfacial energy and pre-exponential factor for isonicotinamide in various solvents from the induction time and metastable zone width data

Metastable zone width (MSZW) and induction time data for isonicotinamide (INA) in various solvents, including methanol, acetone, acetonitrile, and ethyl acetate, were experimentally measured using a turbidity probe. For the MSZW data, the interfacial energy and pre-exponential factor were determined and compared based on classical nucleation theory (CNT) using the integral model, the linearized integral model, and the classical 3D nucleation theory approach, respectively. For the induction time data, the interfacial energy and pre-exponential factor were determined based on CNT using the conventional method. The nucleation criteria at the nucleation point in derivation of various models were examined in detail. The obtained interfacial energy and pre-exponential factor from the MSZW data for INA in each solvent were compared with those from the induction time data.
