A double stopper consisting of two hydroxyl groups was introduced on an 18-membered-ring orifice of an open-cage C60 derivative, effectively isolating Ar/N2 from a reaction atmosphere, which are stable even at 200 °C. In the crystal, the product with a double stopper adopts a dimeric configuration via intermolecular hydrogen-bondings.
