Cover Feature. Picrorhiza scrophulariiflora, a renowned bitter Chinese medicine, is known for its gastrointestinal thickening properties. Its active component, Picroside III (Pic), has demonstrated potential in ameliorating colitis. However, the precise mechanism of its action remains unclear. This study elucidates that Pic's favorable impact on colitis in mice is attributed to the inhibition of intestinal inflammation through the suppression of the PI3 K-Akt pathway. Additionally, it involves an elevation in the abundance of specific gut microbiota, namely Lactobacillus murinus and Lactobacillus gasseri, as reported by Yating Sun et al. in their research article at 10.1002/cbdv.202301806.
