A new condensation system was developed for integrating helicene π units into 2D polymers and open frameworks, which led to the creation of novel 2D helicene materials via C=C bond-formation reaction. The 2D helicene frameworks are chemically robust, enable extended π conjugation over 2D planes, create low band gap, exhibit exceptional photoconductivity, and achieve benchmark efficient red emission, opening a way to novel π electronic materials.
