A perylene bisimide modified by cyclometalated AuIII complex with unprecedented T-type packing model in crystalline state was synthesized and employed for controlled fabrication of monolayer films via the Langmuir–Schaeffer technique. Based on the film, a conceptual luminescent sensor was further developed, which allowed high-performance sensing of a new psychoactive substance, phenylethylamine.
