Negatively charged 2H-MoS2: The surface of 2H-MoS2 was activated by reacting liquid exfoliated 2H-MoS2 with NaBH4 yielding a novel anionically charged semi-conducting two-dimensional 2H-MoS2 defined as n-2H-MoS2. The negative doping allowed for dispersibility in water and other polar solvents (unlike pristine 2H-MoS2), caused a red-shift in the material's photoluminescence, and allowed for facile functionalisation.
