The acetylated 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin-λ-carrageenan complex had more selective intracellular uptakes and photodynamic activity of cancer cells toward normal cells than the 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin-λ-carrageenan complex. Furthermore, the complex improved the photodynamic activity during in vivo experiments owing to its high blood retention.
