Naphth[4]arene (NA[4]A), a new kind of macrocyclic arene, is synthesized by a macrocycle conversion approach. Benefiting from the flexible conformation of NA[4]A, two conformation-dependent supramolecular crystalline assemblies between NA[4]A and TCNB are selectively fabricated, and show color-tunable fluorescence and two-photon excited upconversion emission regulated by the macrocyclic conformations.
