Size-transformable nanoreporters with superoxide anion-triggered luminescent turn-on response and nanostructure decomposition are synthesized. The conversion from nanoparticles to renal clearable fragments allows for crosstalk-free duplex chemo-fluorescence imaging of peritonitis, drug induced hepatoxicity and in vitro urinalysis.
