To explore the bioactive phytochemical constituents of Dianthus superbus, whole plants of D. superbus were collected and chemically investigated. A rare Caryophyllaceae-type cyclic nonapeptide, named superbcyclin A, was isolated. Its structure was determined on the basis of spectroscopic data and analytical evidence. The absolute configurations of the amino acid residues were identified by advanced Marfey’s analysis.
