Cobalt catalysis is an effective method for transferring a hydrogen atom to olefins, forming the corresponding branched alkyl radicals and leading to Markovnikov hydrofunctionalisation products. The recent merger of this area with photo- and electro-catalysis has introduced new reactivity, milder reaction conditions and improved functional group tolerance. This review summarises these advances and provides an outlook for future developments.
