Photografting of azosulfates Ar−N=NSO3Na on gold, leads to bonded organic films. Au−R or Au−N=N−R bonding results from a stepwise or concerted reaction respectively. Azosulfonates are shelf stable compounds which are much easier to handle with respect to the commonaryldiazonium salt.
