A novel nickel-boron nitride photothermal catalyst for enabling the Solar Sabatier process is reported that reduces the energy intensity of the thermo-catalytic version, yet maintains an amazing Sabatier conversion of 87.68 %, a reaction rate of 2.03 mol gNi−1 h−1, and near 100 % selectivity under ambient pressure conditions. Together these attributes are considered a prerequisite for scaling the process to a technologically relevant level.
