A ligand-controlled cobalt(II)-catalyzed hydroalkylation reaction for the β-selective synthesis of 2-deoxy-C-glycosides from glycals is described. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions by a radical pathway and may inspire the development of similar stereoselective coupling reactions, particularly in the field of carbohydrate synthesis.
