A series of novel hinge-like molecules, namely dipyrrolo-1,4-dithiins, were prepared via fusion of pyrroles with 1,4-dithiin. Their hinged structure, excellent redox-activity, and adaptive host–guest chemistry have provided great potentials for developing redox-switchable host–guest systems and materials.
