The fast photoisomerization of a new photoswitchable molecule through excited-state intramolecular proton transfer can be clearly characterized by the dual-mode (color and fluorescence) optical behaviors in the solid state. The good photochromism performance and high-contrast makes it a highly promising tool in the fields of dual-mode information encryption and high-density data storage.
