Simultaneous Sensing of H2O, D2O and HOD through Peroxo Vibrations

Telling Peroxo Vibrations: HOD, along with H2O and D2O, can be detected using surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering of a peroxo-complex, especially in the presence of plasmonic gold nanoparticles. The independent vibrational peaks of the three species are the results of adding extra masses to the peroxo “oscillator” through the specific couplings between the O−O and adjoining O⋅⋅D/O⋅⋅H hydrogen bonds.
