Velocity was measured during 1993–1995 by current-meters moored in the Kuroshio region off Shikoku. During the measurements, hydrographic surveys were carried out eight times. They provide the first series of full-depth absolute-geostrophic-velocity sections of the Kuroshio, based on directly measured properties. The Kuroshio as eastward flow has volume transport of 60 ± 9 Sv (1 Sv = 106 m3 s−1) on average, while that in the temporal-mean velocity section has smaller transport of 47 Sv reasonably. The Kuroshio as through-flow, local recirculation being excluded, has transport of 44 ± 7 Sv. Under the Kuroshio, a pair of stable deep westward and eastward flows is observed over the Nankai Trough, being probably independent of the Kuroshio locally.
