Abstract
The Dezful Embayment, in the southwest of the Zagros orogenic belt, contains anticlines that have different geometries in vertical and horizontal sections. One of these anticlines is the NW–SE trending Bibi-Hakimeh anticline, with a length of 71 km and a width of 5 to 8 km. In this research, using the interpretation of six reflection seismic sections, well data and surface outcrops we have investigated the percentage of shortening and changes in the structural geometry of the Bibi-Hakimeh anticline in the Dezful Embayment (southwest of Iran). The interpreted seismic lines show the presence of the forethrust and backthrust in the forelimb and backlimb of this anticline. In the Bibi-Hakimeh anticline, a relatively large thickness of the Gachsaran Formation is observed at limbs, and a small thickness is observed in the hinge zone of the anticline. The movement of this Formation from the top of the anticline towards the limbs has caused to be the lowest thickness of the Gachsaran Formation in the hinge zone of the anticline. Asymmetric and disharmonic geometry of the Bibi-Hakimeh anticline is due to the forethrusts and backthrusts and the presence of the Gachsaran Formation as detachment level. The lowest percentage of shortening is related to the SE part of this anticline is ~10.44% and the highest percentage of shortening is related to its middle part is ~12.41%.
