A transient ligand-enabled palladium-catalyzed heteroannular C−H olefination and allylation of stacked aromatic assemblies has been developed, in which the remote heteroannular site over the proximal homoannular site is functionalized. Mechanistic investigations support an olefin coordination-promoted interannular palladium migration process determinative for reversal of the site-selectivity.
