Taking a closer look: We present the photochemical synthesis of BrF₅, its high- and low-temperature crystal structures, its reactions with some alkali metal fluorides and a discussion of the free valence electron pairs on the bromine atoms of the BrF₅ molecules and [BrF₆]⁻ anions by using intrinsic bond orbitals.
