The dissociation of H2 is a prerequisite in hydrogenation reaction. Herein, using DFT calculations of C2H2 hydrogenation on various catalysts, we demonstrated that H2 can be activated by chemisorbed C2H2 serving as a substrate molecule. The transition state energy for H2 activated by C2H2 is generalized by a linear scaling.
