Tuning the regioselectivity of topochemical reactions is challenging as they occur under reagent- and solvent-free conditions. Employing a cocrystal strategy, we rationally tuned the regiochemistry of a topochemical polymerization. A monomer, known to polymerize topochemically to give a 1 : 1 blend of two differently linked polymers, was cocrystallized with a dummy molecule. This cocrystal underwent topochemical polymerization regioselectively.
