Indoline derivatives, belonging to one of the most ubiquitous and fundamental classes of nitrogen-containing heterocyclics, occupy an out-standingly important role in modern synthetic chemistry. Thus, the purpose of this review is to summarize a complementary overview of recent dearomative functionalization of N-acylindoles since 2012, rendering the highly efficient construction of optically active and racemic indolines, as well as their applications in organic synthesis.
