A photocatalyst-free, facile and efficient light-driven method that is capable of converting alcohols to corresponding carboxyl compounds under mild conditions is reported. The present method exhibited favourable compatibility with functional groups and affors a series of sulfoxides in high selectivity and yields. The reaction mechanism was studied experimentally and theoretically.
