A cyclic metal vinylidene with high ring-strain was obtained via a one-pot synthesis. The reactivity of this metal vinylidene with nucleophiles and electrophiles was investigated, resulting in unprecedented conversion of the metal vinylidene to a metal carbyne in five-membered ring.
