Chemical constituents of the deep-sea-derived Acremonium alternatum and their chemotaxonomic significance

A phytochemical investigation on Acremonium alternatum from the deep-sea sediment of the Western Pacific Ocean led to the isolation of eight compounds, including two bisorbicillinoids (1 and 2), two ceramides (3 and 4), and four steroids (58). The structures of the isolates were established mainly by detailed analysis of NMR spectroscopic data. All compounds were isolated from A. alternatum for the first time. The bisorbicillinoids 1 and 2 might be chemotaxonomic markers to differentiate A. alternatum and A. citrinum from other Acremonium species. The ceramides 3 and 4 are indicative compounds of A. alternatum, while three steroids 5, 6 and 7 could be of systematic interest to distinguish A. alternatum from other Acremonium species.
