Carrier multiplication via singlet fission has been actively investigated to overcome the Shockley–Queisser limit, and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have emerged as potential platforms that can host triplet excitons generated during the photon downconversion process. This perspective includes a review of a few examples of singlet fission solar cells and the interfacial conditions that facilitate triplet transfer in 2D organic-TMD heterostructures, and it also suggests possible strategies for future TMD-based singlet fission solar cells.
