The effect of doping europium, yttrium and lutetium into CeO2 nanoparticles for the photocatalytic reduction of toxic organic pollutant p-nitrophenol under visible light irradiation was studied. The photocatalysts were synthesized via chemical precipitation method and characterized. The reduction reaction was enhanced by the addition of photocatalysts which was slow only in the presence of NaBH4 in reducing p-nitrophenol (Yellow) to p-aminophenol (Colourless). Among the synthesized photocatalysts, Lu0.05CeO2 showed 96 % efficiency in reducing p-nitrophenol completely within 45 min.
