Manganese oxides type OL-1, OMS-1 and OMS-2 were used for the first time as catalysts in the epoxidation of cyclopentene using the bicarbonate-peroxide system. Layered manganese oxide, OL-1 was the most selective. Impregnation with sodium tungstate reduces selectivity to cyclopentene oxide by blocking the Mn2+ active sites.
