peri-Acenes represent an important class of materials for organic (opto)electronic and spintronic devices. This Review provides a summary of the recent progress in the precision synthesis and characterization of peri-acenes and their π-extended systems via on-surface or wet chemistry as well as the outlooks in this research field.
