A hexapodal capsule has been shown to trap inorganic anions over a large span of time. Whereas small spherical and cylindrical ions enter the cage at a rapid rate (seconds), it takes longer (minutes) for medium-sized and tripodal species, and larger and tetrahedral anions need hours to days to fully populate the host. Such a kinetic selection could be used for sequestering anions from solution and/or controlling their chemistry.
