Noble-gas performance for lithium atomic spectroscopy in glass vapor cells

We report on the performance of noble gases for atomic lithium (Li) spectroscopy in the glass vapor cells. The frequency shift and broadening in hyperfine splitting, and their dependence on temperature and density of noble gas were measured by dark resonance in coherent population trapping of ground-state Li atoms.Given a large helium permeation of borosilicate glass, neon gas having a low impact on atomic coherence and low permeation is identified as the best buffer gas among the noble gases
