During the process of charge/discharge, with the de-/intercalation of Na ions, there will be structural changes in the P2-type layered oxide cathodes (phase transition from P2 to O2/Z phase or from P2 to P′2 phase). Due to the large volume change and Jahn-Teller effect, such phase transition could cause structural damage, thus it is a vital issue to keep the structural stability of P2-type layered oxide cathodes during cycling.
