Abstract

The condensation of ethyl 2-amino-6-cyano-6-phenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-car­boxylate with formamide gave 4-oxo-7-phenyl-3,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydro[1]benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-7-carbo­nitrile which was treated with phosphoryl chloride to obtain the corresponding 4-chloro derivative. Reactions of the latter with secondary amines afforded a series of 4-aminobenzothienopyrimidines, and the reaction with hydrazine hydrate, followed by cyclization with formic acid, furnished 9-phenyl-8,9,10,11-tetrahydro[1]benzothieno[3,2-e][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidine-9-carbonitrile.
