This review summarizes hypervalent iodine-mediated oxidative dearomatization reactions of phenol and its derivatives that end up with enantioriched products. Oxidative dearomatization of phenolic compounds using chiral hypervalent iodine compounds as well as oxidative transformations involving hypervalent iodine followed by desymmetrization using chiral auxiliary are presented herein.
