A soft layered material was obtained by intercalation of hydrogen-bonding guests in the layered polydiacetylene (PDA). The softened layered PDA exhibits wide-range temperature-responsive gradual color changes with two-stage reversibility. The resultant layered composites are applied to real-time imaging of the temperature distribution. Intercalation of the hydrogen-bonding guests is a potential strategy for design of soft layered materials.
