Abstract Reaction of ReBr(CO)3(MeCN)2 with one-half an equivalent of MeN(PF2)2 forms Re2(CO)6(u–Br)2(u-MeN(PF2)2) (1) as the major product while with one equivalent of the phosphine, a mixture of 1, ReBr(CO)3(η2-MeN(PF2)2) (2) and ReBr(CO)3(η1-MeN(PF2)2)(MeCN) (3) is produced. Complex 2 is more conveniently prepared from ReBr(CO)3(THF)2 and one equivalent of the phosphine. It reacts with ReBr(CO)3(MeCN)2 to form 1 and with acetonitrile to form 3. The crystal and molecular structure of 1 has been determined. 1: Triclinic, P1; a = 6.501(3), b = 100.98(3), c = 14.722(4)A, α = 94.32(2), β = 100.93(3), γ = 107.21(3)° Z = 2; R = 0.042, R w = 0.055 for 3144 reflections (I≥3σ(I)).
