Abstract A new lupin alkaloid (+)-5α,9α-dihydroxymatrine has been isolated from the leaves of Euchresta horsfeldii ( E. formosana cv riukiuensis ) together with matrine, matrine N -oxide, sophoranol, sophoranol N -oxide, anagyrine, N -methylcytisine, N -formylcytisine and cytisine.
