Synthesis, thermal and optical characterization of 4,4ʹ-[(1,4-phenylene)-4,4′-[(1,4-phenylene)-bis-2,6-dicoumarinyl] pyridine derivatives

Pyridine based 4,4ʹ-(1,4-phenylene)-bis-2,6-di-coumarins were designed and synthesized under conventional method with more than 70% yield. Fascinatingly, the thermal studies of all the compounds were investigated, wherein all the compounds are thermally more stable up to the melting range 280–350 °C. Optical properties of all the compounds were studied, wherein single absorption maxima except compound 3b, which shows two absorption maxima. Interestingly, only compound 3b exhibited dual fluorescence as compared to other scaffolds and the band gap of all the compounds were determined.
