Study on preparation and performance of fluid loss additive applied to chlorination titanium blast furnace slag

Abstract

In cementing operations, slag is gradually used as a mixture of cement materials, which can not only realize the reuse of resources, but also relieve the environmental pressure. In order to explore the fluid loss additive suitable for slag, a new type fluid loss additive AMPS/DMC/AA/DN-1 was prepared by molecular structure design and radical synthesis. The monomers used are 2-acrylamide-2-methyl-propionic acid (AMPS), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), acrylic (AA), unsaturated tertiary amine organic solvent (DN-1). The molecular structure and temperature resistance of the copolymer were characterized by elemental analysis, XPS, infrared spectroscopy, thermal weight loss, and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy, and performance evaluation was performed on the titanium-bearing titanium slag doped with AMPS/DMC/AA/DN-1. The results show that when the amount of AMPS/DMC/AA/DN-1 is 2%, the water loss of chlorination titanium blast furnace slag is 24.25 mL, which has good water loss reduction. And the compressive strength of chlorination titanium blast furnace slag is 11.19 MPa, which meets the cementing requirement. In addition, the density of chlorination titanium blast furnace slag is within the range of 1.6–1.9 g/cm3, AMPS/DMC/AA/DN-1 can make the water loss within 50 mL; and it can reduce the water loss in the range of 30 °C–90 °C. Besides, AMPS/DMC/AA/DN-1 can significantly improve the rheological properties and settlement stability of titanium slag.
