Abstract A coordination unsaturated copper (II) coordination polymer, [Cu(tptc)0.5(bpy)(H2O)]n (1), was constructed from the mixed ligands of p-terphenyl-2,2'',5'',5'''-tetracarboxylate acid (H4tptc) and 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (bimb) under hydrothermal condition. Structural analysis revealed that CP 1 is a 2D 4-connected {32∙62∙72} kgm polymeric sheet, which can be further expanded into 3D supramolecular through hydrogen bonds. The coordination unsaturated central Cu(II) ions endow the CP 1 open metal sites, displaying good electrochemical reversibility as well as high efficiency in photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV irradiation.
