Oleanane-type triterpenoid glucuronosides from Glycyrrhiza echinata L. root

Abstract Phytochemical investigation on Glycyrrhiza echinata L. root resulted in the isolation of five highly polar oleanane glucuronopyranosides [yunganoside G1 (1), yunganoside G2 (2), yunganoside M (3), yunganoside E2 (4), and macedonoside C (5)]. The chemical structures of the isolates were elucidated by NMR and mass spectral data analysis as well as by comparing the relevant data with those of reported in literature. The chemotaxonomic significance of macedonoside C and other saponins in Glycyrrhiza is discussed.
