The treatment of acetylated steroid sapogenins with acetaldehyde and BF3·Et2O in CH2Cl2 led to moderate yields of the corresponding 23E-ethylidene spirostanes. The obtained compounds were characterized using a combination of 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Single crystal X-ray diffraction corroborated the proposed structures.
